Rumors link Firmino to Inter Milan

It is unclear whether Firmino will stay at Liverpool or not. The Brazilian’s contract is up this summer and might be on his way out. There have been talks of a contract renewal with Liverpool, however, that’s not concrete yet.

A player with an expiring contract often generates a lot of interest from potential suitors. One such club is Inter Milan, which wouldn’t mind adding the veteran to its attacking line. The Nerazzurri are likely to offer him a deal in the summer when the striker can leave for free.

The aim for Firmino is to replace Romelo Lukaku who will return to Chelsea. The Belgian striker was sold to Chelsea a year ago but returned on loan last summer. Considering major injuries, the striker has just made eight appearances for the club. His loan spell so far has not been successful as the striker has just managed to score two goals. Thus, Inter is unlikely to stick with Lukaku and will bring in Firmino as an alternative.

While it’s understandable for the Liverpool man to move on from Anfield. Liverpool won’t let him go that easy. He did catch his form back this season. So, it’s unlikely that the Reds will let him move for free. They will try to get him on a new deal and eventually get a transfer fee out of him.

Does Liverpool have a place for Firmino?

Firmino is 31 years old and his prime years are behind him. During his downfall, the Merseyside club has signed a bunch of young forwards who have replaced him in the starting line-up. As of now, Firmino lies bottom of the pecking order, behind the likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Cody Gakpo.

It is believed that Liverpool will be splashing money this summer to bring in a new midfielder. Keeping up with Firmino’s added cost may not be the most useful option. Thus, a move out of Anfield is viable for both the club and the player.
