Rob Gronkowski Reveals Why He Chose Patriots Over Lions
Former Buccaneers tight end revealed why he chose New England Patriots over Detroit Lions in a recent interview.
Rob Gronkowski played 9 seasons of his NFL career with the Patriots and the remaining two with the Buccaneers. But in the 2018 NFL Draft, Gronkowski almost landed in the Detroit Lions and was ready to be traded with Adam Schefter.
The contract between Detroits and the Patriots was about to be signed when Gronk took a step back and threatened to retire
NFL star tight end revealed in an interview with NFL insider Peter Schrager about how he got out of that situation. Gronkowski said it was the Patriots or nothing at all. So he used retirement as a weapon to get out of the unwanted situation.
Gronk explained, “I was like Patriots or nothing. We gotta win one more Super Bowl.”

Rob also talked about how all the Detroit fans came after him for not liking the team. In his excuse, he said, “…that whoever I got traded to, I was going to retire.”
He also said How head coach Bill came to his rescue, “… All right, let’s get this **** out of here.”
Gronkowski was right about winning Super Bowl in 2018 with the Patriots. He went for retirement in 2019 but returned with his last franchise Tempa Buccaneers in 2020 teamed up with his old teammate Tom Bardy and won the Super Bowl with the Buccaneers.
