Risk of Rain 2 is a sequel to its 2013 game Risk of rain which was released for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players have to control an alien and survive till the teleport is available for use during this time players fight different unique enemies. These enemies keep getting stronger throughout the game.
Players collect experience points and currency after defeating the enemies. Experience points increase the level of the player which helps in boosting their health and damage a little bit. Players can use the currency to get items in the game, but the currency is altered into the experience if not used before teleportation.
Players can select the character available in the game for multiplayer or solo modes. Different characters have different performances in the game and some are better than others players can read this article to get an idea of the character’s ability.
Gamers might find themselves disagreeing with the position of some characters but remember this list is subjective and it may differ with gamers’ playstyle.

A+ Rank Characters
Captian
Captain is part of Risk of Rain from its 1.0 patch. The captain is the best character in the game with a great amount of damage-dealing ability with weaponry. The Vulcan Shotgun is the captain’s main weapon that deals tons of damage while the second weapon in the holster power tazer is a little it deals 100% damage to enemies and travel when bounced.
Captain also has defensive microbots that compensate for his low mobility of the captain. These defensive bots are really useful when facing a lot of enemies. The captain is a perfect match for players who like solo matches.
Loader
Loader is the most unique character in the game when other characters have either low mobility and higher damage or high mobility and low damage, Loader deals a lot of damage with his mobility. Loader is one of the best characters in the game but mastering Loader is torturing. The player needs to learn how to use her swinging mechanic to get the full benefits of this character.
Players can use the thunder gauntlet to deal a lot of damage or use the items to reduce the cooldown of the M551 pylon player can only use three pylons at a time.
A- Rank Characters
Huntress
Huntress is an amazing survivor with unbelievable damage per second when dealing with one enemy. She can deal a lot of damage to enemies while keeping them at the bay with her ability to shoot while moving back. Her main let her shoot enemies with precision in a limited range which she can compensate for with her other ability.
She is a perfect aggressive survivor with her single flaw being her health pool. But still, she ranks better than some other characters in the game.
MUL-T
MUL-T with the biggest health pool in the game is a brilliant range of survivors. MUL-T has great damage with its armor that players usually use to tank the damage and deal damage. The most useful ability of the MUL-T is Retool which let players switch the weapon easily or use two items easily. Its nailgun that players used to spam also got some modification in the recent update.
Gamers that haven’t played with MUL-T in a long time should give it a shot when playing the game with all the modifications in the character player will enjoy playing with him.
REX
This half-machine and half-plant REX is the most balanced character in the game. It doesn’t require assistance from the other player to defeat the enemies in the game players can use Natural toxins using rex that reduces the enemy’s armor, movement speed, and damage. REX’s different skills make him beneficial even against the opposing bosses.
The only flaw of this character is that REX loses his health when dealing with enemies which makes it balance with all his other skills. If it was not for this disadvantage he could have ranked higher.
Engineer
This character’s primary skill is using a turret to deal damage. The turret deployed by the Engineer deal a lot of damage to the enemies from long range. Even though the mobility of the engineer isn’t good it can be compensated using his ability Bubble shield. TR12 Gauss Auto or TR58 Carbonizer Turrets both require little preparation he can deploy them.
Engineer is a perfect character for a newcomer in the game but players can’t be too aggressive before giving him time for preparation and complaining about the character.
B Rank Characters
Artificer
Artificer’s sole purpose is to deal a lot of damage. She has different attacks like nano bombs and nano-spear that deal a lot of damage to the enemy. Artificer can deal a lot of damage but it doesn’t have the ability to stop itself from getting damaged players can only use the ion surge to protect themselves from damage or they require a great dodging ability.
The artificer was amazing at the start of the game but without any update to its ability in moving she isn’t just worth the risk.
Acrid
Acrid deals a lot of damage using the ability to deal damage over time with poison and blitz. This poison-spewing ex-prisoner has the most base damage stat in the game and with a heretic, it deals even more damage. Players can be really useful in the multiplayer mode but in a solo mode not so much.
Players will be needing more than the ability to hit and run when playing solo mode. If the player wants to use this survivor in the solo mode they can use the items that deal more debuff to enemies.
C Rank Character
Mercenary
Mercenary was ranked A before he was extremely nerfed by the developers. This character used to deal damage by chaining his attacks and being on the offensive whenever he get the chance. His high mobility with his skills let him slip away from the enemy making him almost invincible. Now after nerf, he is just a shell of his former self making him extremely unpopular among the player.
Mercenary before the nerf was an extremely good character but now he is just an ordinary survivor that doesn’t mean he isn’t a good character. Players can still use this character for interesting gameplay.
Commando
Commando this default character was amazing in the prequel of the game, But in Risk of Rain 2, he can be said to be average at most with no strongness or weakness. Game-dev make all his skill common for the character that was unique to him and with the upgrade he is missing any great single target damage and AOE attack.
Players can still use this character with the item stacking effect, given the speed and high proc coefficient of many of his skills.
