Renowned Colgate Football Coach Dick Biddle Passes Away at 75

The world of football is mourning the loss of a true legend as Dick Biddle, a beloved coach who led Colgate’s football team for many years, has sadly passed away at the age of 75. This news has touched the hearts of many, and the school confirmed it earlier this week, marking a sad moment in the world of college sports.

Colgate Football shared on Twitter, “Coach Dick Biddle’s passing is a moment of deep sadness. He was a respected figure in our program and throughout @PatriotLeagueFB. His legacy of winning championships showed his toughness and determination. He embodied the spirit of Colgate Football.”

For nearly two decades, Biddle guided the Colgate football program, from 1996 to 2013. During his time, he achieved an impressive record of 137 wins and 73 losses, showing his skill in coaching and leading his team to victory in 15 seasons. His impact in the Patriot League is truly impressive, making him the coach with the most wins in the league’s history. He had a remarkable 81 wins and 27 losses in conference games.

Under his leadership, the Red Raiders secured an impressive seven Patriot League titles, proving their strength in the league. The team also had a remarkable run of seven appearances in the FCS Playoffs, reaching the national championship game in 2003. Unfortunately, they didn’t secure the victory in that game against Delaware.

Biddle’s excellence and dedication were acknowledged with the honor of being named Patriot League Coach of the Year four times, highlighting his consistent impact and smart coaching strategies.

Originally from Parkersberg, West Virginia, Biddle’s journey in football began when he played as a Duke University linebacker from 1967 to 1970. He worked hard as an assistant coach at different schools before getting the chance to lead his own team.
