Reggie Miller Raises Concerns Over Victor Wembanyama, Offers Prayers for NBA Prospect
Basketball legend Reggie Miller recently shared his concerns about Victor Wembanyama, a promising basketball player who is expected to be the top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Miller is worried about Wembanyama’s slim build, comparing it to his own when he was 7’5″ tall. He questions whether Wembanyama’s body can withstand the physical demands of the NBA, especially when facing bigger opponents near the basket.
“My only concern is – he looks like me at 7’5″. Knock on wood. I was rarely injured, through my 18-year [career], only ankle injuries,” Miller said. “But I played on the perimeter. I’m not banging with the big boys.”
Miller explained that he hopes Wembanyama avoids injuries because he believes the young player has the potential to be great. However, he also mentioned that the game today is not as physical as it used to be, which might work in Wembanyama’s favor.
“But it’s not as physical as it was in the 80s and 90s, so he won’t be banged up like those days. I just hope he doesn’t get hurt. I just pray he stays healthy,” Milled added.
“If he stays healthy, and everything I’ve seen on video tapes and everything I’ve seen on scouting reports, if he plays like that, the future is his. So I’m excited for him.”
Another NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal, has also expressed doubts, in an interview with Sportscasting.com, about Wembanyama’s size and strength, even though he recognizes the young player’s shooting and dribbling abilities.
Despite Miller and Shaq’s concerns, Wembanyama has been generating significant buzz within NBA circles. The San Antonio Spurs are expected to select him as the top pick in the upcoming draft, setting high expectations for the young Frenchman. Wembanyama’s performance in the French league for Metropolitans 92 has been remarkable, averaging an impressive 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 3.0 blocks in 34 games.
Wembanyama has been performing impressively in the French league, which has generated significant attention and excitement leading up to the NBA Draft, which will be held on June 22nd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. All eyes will be on Wembanyama and his potential to carve out a successful NBA career.
