Real Madrid reignite interest in Erling Haaland
Real Madrid reactivates ‘operation Haaland’ for the summer
As per Diario Sport, Real Madrid hierarchy has decided to reignite their interest in Norwegian Striker Erling Haaland. After failing to secure his signing ahead of Manchester City last summer, Real Madrid went into the season relying on their star man, Karim Benzema. However, despite producing world class stats last season, Benzema has failed to repeat those numbers due to injuries.
The need for a new striker
Despite carrying Real Madrid for the last few seasons, Benzema is showing signs of slowing down and has been a victim of numerous injuries this season. The striker was kept quiet throughout the match as Madrid lost three straight El Clasicos against FC Barcelona.
The Frenchman is not getting any younger and Real Madrid do not have any quality players as backup. Thus, Los Blancos have set their eyes on Erling Haaland as a priority signing for 2024.
How much will Haaland cost?
As per today, bringing Haaland to Santiago Bernabeu will cost Real Madrid upwards of €200m plus the astronomical wages.
Real Madrid, however, believe there to be a release clause in the striker’s contract which allows him to move away from the Etihad for a relatively cheap price. Unfortunately, this release clause will only be activated in the summer of 2024.
Apart from that, it will remain up to Haaland on whether he looks forward to leaving Manchester City Or not.
According to Real Madrid officials, Haaland’s arrival not change anything when it comes to Madrid’s pursuit or Kylian Mbappe.
In the meantime, Real Madrid will look to work for the best with Karim Benzema who might be playing his last season in the Spanish capital.
