Randy Moss Reveals Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Apologized After NFL Draft Snub

In the 1998 NFL Draft, wide receiver Randy Moss, despite his exceptional performance at Marshall University, was selected only as the 21st pick. Surprisingly, the Dallas Cowboys were among the teams that passed on Moss, opting to choose Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Ellis instead.

During a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Moss disclosed a surprising revelation when asked if the Cowboys ever kicked the tires on him: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones personally extended an apology to him following his retirement.

Moss candidly stated, “No, not one time. The crazy part about it is them kicking the tires one time was – Jerry basically summed it up for me, Rich. He came and give me a big hug one day during a preseason game when I was working for ESPN. He just apologized. It really felt good to hear that coming from Jerry because of how many emotions I had on draft day.”

Despite being overlooked by the Cowboys, Moss never harbored any ill feelings toward the franchise. He expressed his respect for the Cowboys and their organization during his conversation with Eisen. He said, “I respect the Cowboys and I respect the organization.”

Moss also admitted his surprise at Jones’ apology, highlighting the unexpected nature of the gesture.

In the grand scheme of things, Moss’s career took a remarkable turn for the better. The Hall of Famer concluded his time in the NFL with an astonishing 15,000+ receiving yards, solidifying his status as one of the all-time greats in his position.
