Question to Paul Finebaum If Ryan Day Should Be On ‘Hot Seat’
Ryan Day, the head coach of Ohio State, has only lost six games so far. But there are a lot of rumors that his job might not be safe if he can’t beat Michigan for the third time in a row. The Buckeyes have lost to Michigan in the last two years. Both times, Michigan made it to the College Football Playoff.
Last season, Ohio State got to the playoff too and almost won against Georgia, who became the national champion. Even with that, people are still thinking about Day’s position as the coach.
A well-known college football expert recently shared thoughts on Day and the coaching situation at Ohio State.
ESPN and the SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum appeared on 850 ESPN Cleveland on Thursday, and he was asked about Day.
“You have to beat Michigan if you want to continue, successfully, as the Ohio State head coach,” Finebaum said.
“Assuming we’re sitting here at Thanksgiving and Ohio State has lost to Michigan and is not in the Playoff, I think that’s a really bad sign.”
Finebaum said that if Day failed to beat Michigan for a third year in a row, it could result in a change at head coach.
“He’ll be trending toward hot seat land, and I frankly think he should be. If you go 0-3 against Michigan, your biggest rival, that does not portend well for you.”
Ohio State has been good at getting strong players and has seen success with Day as the coach. However, just doing well might not be sufficient for him to continue if he can’t defeat Michigan or lead the team to win a national championship in Columbus.
