It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news of Rodion Amirov’s passing. You might remember him as the 15th pick in the 2020 NHL Draft. He was a budding star, and his agent, Dan Milstein, announced on Monday that he’s no longer with us.

Amirov was just 21 years old and originally from Russia. He’d been bravely battling brain cancer since February 2022. Even with such a tough fight on his hands, he never lost his smile or his fighting spirit.

In a touching tweet, his agent, Dan Milstein, shared, “We will always remember his courage, his will to live, his will, his smile, and all his wonderful qualities. We express our gratitude to all the doctors who waged a difficult but unequal struggle for the life of Rodion.”

Back in 2020, the Toronto Maple Leafs picked Amirov as the 15th choice in the draft. He played as a left-winger and had a bright future ahead.

The news of his passing has deeply saddened the Maple Leafs organization.

They said, “The entire Maple Leafs organization is devastated by this tragic loss. Over the duration of his courageous battle, Rodion’s positivity inspired everyone around him, and he made lasting impressions with our team and fans in his brief visits to Toronto. It’s incredibly sad to see a young man with so much promise taken from us so soon. We offer out deepest condolences to Rodion’s family and friends as we mourn this loss together.”

Our hearts also go out to Amirov’s family, friends, and teammates. His journey, both on and off the ice, touched many lives. He showed us all what it means to keep fighting, no matter the odds.
