Potter Predicts A Big Future For Mudryk At Chelsea
Arriving at the Stamford Bridge, Mykhailo Mudryk had the Ukrainian Flag on his shoulders. He walked out on the field at half-time during Chelsea’s match against Crystal Palace to receive love and appreciation from Stamford Bridge.
The Ukrainian arrived for an eye-watering fee of €70m with €30m add-ons. The length of the contract is reported as 7.5 years with an additional optional year. This transfer comes out as a clear example of how Chelsea uses amortization and spread out huge transfer fees over multiple years to go around the FFP rules. The length of the deal is surprisingly long but acceptable as per Brexit rules which allows English clubs to agree to longer contracts than that compared to EU which allows a maximum of 5-6 years.
That shows incredible trust on the club’s part and commitment from the player. Ironic timing some might say as the club has been very vocal about ending the player power at the club.
What Did Graham Potter Say About Mudryk?
On a serious note, Graham Potter played a key role in convincing the 22-year-old forward to choose Chelsea over Arsenal. He apparently asked the Ukrainian to make better choices in life as the fans expect big things from the club’s record winter signing.
The Manager said:
“He’s a player with a big future, exciting, one vs one, he’s very direct, he attacks the back-line, can go into wide areas but also affects the goal. A really exciting player and I think our supporters will really like him.”
“[We] want to do better, want to play better, want to play better and get more points and wins. You need a squad that is balanced, that has the right amount of competition, and I think that [Mudryk] brings that. Then it’s my job to make the selections.”
More Reaction From The World Of Football
Mudryk’s move to London has made ears all around Europe. Former Chelsea manager, José Mourinho talked about the animosity of the transfer just hours after Roma’s 2-0 win over Fiorentina. referencing it just a few hours later after AS Roma’s 2-0 win over Fiorentina. The Portuguese Manager said:
“We need to find a solution; we can’t just buy Mudryk for €100m!”
Arteta had his say on the transfer as well after the Gunners failed to get Mudryks signature due to financial reasons. He said:
“We have excellent players and we want to improve our squad in this transfer window — when I say we I mean, myself, the coaching staff, the staff players, the board and the ownership — we all want to do that. But we will do the deals we can do and the ones we feel are right for the club.”
