Pistons’ Isaiah Livers approaches his offseason training with caution for the upcoming season
In order to prevent injuries and be ready for the next 82-game season, Pistons’ Isaiah Livers is approaching his summer exercise routine with a more methodical approach. Next summer, Livers will be a restricted free agent, making this next season very important for his career.
Isaiah Livers, a forward with the Pistons, now acknowledges that his hard fitness routine throughout the summer may have caused more damage than good after being restricted to 19 games in his rookie season of 2021–2022 due to a right foot stress fracture he had in college. Due to several injuries, he played in 52 games during his second season in ’22–’23.
Livers has chosen a different, more regulated method this summer to effectively prepare his body for an 82-game schedule. Having him back at full strength might give the squad a boost in their quest for the postseason, tempting Pistons fans’ participation in NBA betting. Before that, he must avoid the persistent ailments that have ruined his career.
“I’ve built a new friendship with the weight room,” Livers told Sankofa. “I feel a lot more explosive, bouncier, and I feel more in control of my body. It’s no secret, the No. 1 thing about me is just avoiding injuries. It’s been some small injuries. I tweaked my workout plan to the point where I won’t have those wear-and-tears, those nagging injuries. I’ve been put on a smart plan where I’m not overworking myself. This is the season. I’m excited and we have big things to look forward to.”
Livers, a tireless worker, acknowledges that taking a step back hasn’t been simple, but he understands that the season of ’23/’24 will be crucial for his future. Sankofa points out that the former second-round selection, whose contract was exercised by Detroit at the end of June, will be eligible for restricted free agent next summer.
Livers also discussed with Sankofa the hiring of Monty Williams as head coach and the return of Cade Cunningham.
Detroit Pistons’ season hinges on the gym
The Detroit Pistons can only improve as a team next season if they can avoid injuries.
Last season, the Pistons were the league leaders in games missed, which resulted in a measly 17 victories and the lowest record in the league.
All but 12 of Cade Cunningham’s games were missed due to injury, while Bojan Bogdanovic, Isaiah Stewart, Marvin Bagley III, Isaiah Livers, and Alec Burks all lost considerable time with their own ailments. Since Detroit was losing games late in the season, Bogdanovic and Burks’ situations were more of the “tank” sort. However, the rest of these players had actual injuries, which was a major issue.
This will continue for the Detroit Pistons if these players don’t have injury-free seasons, therefore it’s crucial that they do so. Several players are working out at the gym to do that, and the effects are so far clear.
