PGA Tour members face potential sanctions despite initial approval to play LIV promotions event – Reports
The PGA Tour and the LIV Golf series have yet again clashed, this time over the LIV Golf Q-School. As the PGA Tour season comes to a close, the LIV Golf series has opened up its promotion events to all PGA Tour golfers.
Because the LIV Golf Q-School is not a sanctioned tournament, a PGA Tour representative told CBS that any PGA Tour players who participate would face no consequences. However, in a new development, the PGA Tour has threatened individuals who participated in the promotional events with punishment.
On X (previously Twitter), Monday Q information indicated the following:
Among the people signed up for LIV “Q-school” include a Major Champ, multi-time Tour winner, a top 100 player, and some former decorated Ams. (I haven’t talked w the players so not naming them)

Also hearing the Tour is threatening suspension now if they go, so it might change.

Also, I’m hearing that the Tour is now threatening to suspend them if they leave so that things might change.”
Flushing It, a golf account on X, added:
“I can attest to this. Despite the PGAT initially stating just three weeks ago that members will be permitted to compete in the LIV Promotions Event, various sources have said that sanctions are now being threatened. According to player chats, around ten PGA Tour members are affected.”

LIV Golf Q-School will include PGA Tour players as part of a merger agreement.
According to a PGA spokesperson, while PGAT players will be permitted to compete in the Q-School event, they may not be allowed to compete in the 2024 LIV Golf season. Speaking to CBS, he stated:
“Based on publicly available information, the LIV Golf Promotion event is determined to be a qualifying event only, not part of an unauthorized series.” As a result, the LIV Golf Promotion event is not considered an ‘unauthorized tournament.’ This categorization is subject to change if the event’s specifics change.”
Players who left the PGA Tour have been highly sanctioned and barred from competing in the LIV Golf series since its beginning.
