Patrick Mahomes Shares Sympathy Over Teammates Getting Cut
The NFL preseason is almost done, and that means some players are facing a tough reality – getting cut from the team.
Before the regular season begins, teams have to shrink their rosters down to just 53 players. This means that some players won’t get to live their NFL dreams.
One player who doesn’t have to worry about being cut is Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. He’s the reigning MVP and has a secure spot on the team. But even so, he understands how hard it is for his teammates who might not make the cut.
Here’s what Mahomes said about the cuts, “I’m rooting for everybody. It’s hard to sit there and you don’t want to promote for one guy to make it over another guy because this is people’s livelihoods, this is people’s lives.”
He explained that he doesn’t pay too much attention to the details of who gets cut and who doesn’t. But he’s sad for his teammates because he likes all the guys on the team. It’s tough for him to see his friends’ and teammates’ dreams come to an end in just a moment.
As teams go from having 90 players in the preseason to only 53, more than 1,000 players will be let go in the next few days.
