Ivie made his MLB debut with San Diego as an 18-year-old catcher in 1971. After that, Mike became one of the most worthwhile players in baseball history adding his name with the Giants, Astros, and Tigers posting a .269 batting average across his 11 major league seasons and an impressive 1979 campaign in San Francisco.
In 1978, he joined the San Francisco Giants, where he starred as a pinch-hitter. He hit four home runs that year and holds the record for most pinch-hit grand slams in a season with two.
Ivie reportedly died on Friday at the age of 70. Baseball fans will remember him and his amazing pinch-hitting in 1978 which helped propel his team to the postseason.
May the legend Mike Ivie rest in peace.
