Open Alpha Access Now Available for Tarkov-Inspired VR Shooter
Combat Waffle Studios has announced that their VR-exclusive game, Ghosts of Tabor, has entered open alpha testing for PC. Inspired by popular games like DayZ and Escape from Tarkov, Ghosts of Tabor is an extraction-based shooter that features PVE and PVP battles across multiple scenarios.
What is an Extraction-Based Shooter?
Extraction-based shooters combine the slow, methodical pacing of tactical first-person shooters with gameplay mechanics typically seen in survival games. Rather than winning rounds by dominating multiplayer scoreboards with the highest kill-to-death ratio, players in these games must scavenge, loot, and craft weapons and equipment to survive against human or AI opponents.
Open Alpha Testing for Ghosts of Tabor
The Ghosts of Tabor alpha test is available to Steam users who request access from the game’s store page. The test provides interested players with the chance to try out the game’s crafting, looting, and survival mechanics before the official launch. The open alpha test is designed to stress-test the multiplayer servers before the game’s release. The developers have encouraged players to “most importantly, break our game!“

Players have expressed excitement about finally getting to try out Ghosts of Tabor for themselves. However, some gamers who had pre-ordered the game for Meta Quest 2 and PS VR2 were disappointed to learn that the open alpha test is for PC only. In response to a comment asking when the game will be available on Sony’s new VR headset, the developer stated that they are “planning for a September PSVR 2 release.” Players on Meta Quest 2 will also have to wait for the full release before playing Ghosts of Tabor.
