One Year After Being Diagnosed, Chris Evert Declares that She is Cancer-Free
Just over a year after disclosing her ovarian cancer diagnosis, the 18-time grand slam champion Chris Evert shared the happy news in an ESPN piece on Tuesday.
In her blog post, Evert stated, “Today, I’m cancer-free, and there’s a 90% chance that ovarian cancer will never come back.”
Evert, 68, was given her diagnosis in December 2021 after a preventive hysterectomy revealed a cancerous tumor in her left fallopian tube.
After the ovarian cancer death of her sister Jeanne, she underwent the procedure. The sibling had the BRCA gene, which increased her risk of ovarian cancer. Evert discovered she shared the same gene after testing.
What did Evert Write about her Survival Story?
Evert wrote on Tuesday: “When I talk to people about genetic testing, so many people say, ‘It’s too scary to know.’ I’m here to tell you, it’s scarier not to,” Evert wrote Tuesday.
At the beginning of 2022, Evert received six rounds of chemotherapy. To lower her risk of breast cancer, which is also associated with the BRCA gene, she underwent a double mastectomy later on in the year.
According to the doctors. Evert’s chance of breast cancer has been 90% reduced. She stated she underwent one more reconstruction procedure on Tuesday.
Evert wrote: “I will never heal from losing Jeanne, and I will never take for granted the gift she gave me in the process.”
“My sister’s journey saved my life, and I hope by sharing mine, I just might save somebody else’s,” she added further.
