Novak Djokovic’s Fun Move After Beating Ben Shelton at U.S. Open

In a big match at the U.S. Open, young American tennis player Ben Shelton faced off against the tennis superstar, Novak Djokovic. Djokovic came out on top, winning in straight sets.

After the game, Djokovic, who likes to have a bit of fun on the court, did something funny involving Shelton. When Shelton wins, he celebrates by pretending to hold a telephone next to his ear with his hand. Djokovic noticed this and decided to do the same thing, kind of like mimicking Shelton’s celebration.

Shelton didn’t see Djokovic doing this until after the match when he watched a video. But Shelton had a mature response. He said that if a player wins, they should be able to celebrate however they want. He also mentioned that when he was a kid, he learned that copying someone can be a form of showing respect and admiration.

Here are his words:

“I didn’t see it until after the match. I don’t like when I’m on social media and I see people telling me how I can or can’t celebrate. If you win the match you deserve to do whatever you want. As a kid growing up, I always learned that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

Ben Shelton Said After the Match

Shelton is still early in his tennis career, and he has a bright future ahead.

Meanwhile, Djokovic is waiting to see who he’ll play against next. It will either be Carlos Alcaraz or Daniil Medvedev. Djokovic is determined to keep winning, and this playful moment on the court won’t slow him down.
