Novak Djokovic reaches Australian Open quarter-finals After Demolishing Alex De Minaur

Djokovic overcame Alex De Minaur, assuaging concerns about a hamstring injury in less than two hours.

In his fourth-round match on Monday at the Rod Laver Arena, Novak Djokovic faced the hot-handed Australian, a home crowd supporting the World No. 24, and a few hecklers. But none of that mattered because the Serb was in his zone and racked up victory after victory to end the game in a little over two hours and go to the quarterfinals for the fourth time in a row.

Novak Djokovic was in top form as he defeated Alex De Minaur in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2, to move to the Australian Open 2023 quarterfinals and maintain his hopes of winning a record-extending 10th Australian Open title.

How did Djokovic rate his performance?

In the first set, Djokovic went on to win 14 of the next 15 games after falling behind 2-2 30-30. De Minaur was left kicking desperately for a hold as a result of this captivating display of faultless hitting by Djokovic. Djokovic was excellent in the quickest match of the tournament so far. When asked if he had attained tennis perfection, Djokovic responded, “Close to.”

“I played the best match of my year so far,” Djokovic said.

From his current performance, it is fair to presume that if his level stays that high moving forward, it will take a magnificent effort to stop him from claiming a 22nd grand slam title.

De Minaur had never faced Djokovic before, and he will likely be hoping that this is the last time he does for a while. De Minaur stated, “I think what I experienced today was probably Novak very close to his best,” and this would have been a sobering evening.
