Nick Nurse’s reason to choose the 76ers over the Bucks
Nick Nurse is considered one of the best coaches these days and big teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns all want to get their hands on him. But Nurse has a totally different opinion of where he wants to go.
Even though he got vacancies from all these big teams, he choose to be a part of the 76ers. Nurse was also considered the top candidate and could have joined the Bucks, but in the end, he choose to pull himself out of the hiring process which resulted in prompting them to hire Adrian Griffin.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, an ESPN insider, There were a number of reasons behind Nick Nurse’s decision that played a huge role in him joining the 76ers.
“Nurse’s desire to coach MVP Joel Embiid and his history with Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey played a significant part in his decision to commit to a deal with Philadelphia,” he wrote.
“Nurse separated himself in the interview process, selling a vision for the Sixers centered on Embiid.”
Even though the Sixers’ other prominent player, James Harden, doesn’t seem to have had a significant influence on Nurse’s choice. However Harden’s influence in getting Doc Rivers fired and his apparent impending departure makes perfect sense.
Now that Nurse is a part of the 76ers, we might get to see some interesting stuff from this duo as they have common goals in their minds.
Although there may be differing opinions on Nurse’s compatibility with Embiid, his credentials are unquestionable. During his tenure with the Toronto Raptors, spanning five seasons, Nurse achieved a remarkable 227-163 record and secured an NBA championship, marking the franchise’s sole title in its illustrious history. Additionally, Nurse was honored with the prestigious 2020 Coach of the Year award for his achievements.
