Nick Kyrgios receives support for gesture as former coach Emma Raducanu praises him
Former coach of Emma Raducanu, Dmitry Tursunov, has praised Nick Kyrgios for his on-court personality, stating that most players are too afraid to show their real selves. Tursunov defended Kyrgios’ behavior, claiming that he is a strong personality that isn’t afraid to engage with the crowd, even if it means being fined or suspended. The Russian coach explained that players are often scared to say what they think because of the fear of having their words twisted.
Tursunov also noted that Kyrgios’ on-court antics were the reason he can sell out stadiums, as he hasn’t been “neutered enough” like other players. The former ATP No 20 argued that Kyrgios’s personality makes him stand out and that he is not afraid to engage with the crowd and get them emotionally involved, even if it means throwing a middle finger.
Kyrgios past:
Kyrgios has been previously warned for visual and audible obscenities, but Tursunov believes that it is better to engage with the crowd than to try and stay polite. He said that most players are afraid to be themselves, but Kyrgios is not. Tursunov commended Kyrgios for his ability to bring his personality to the tennis court, unlike other players who try to conform to expectations.
Overall, Tursunov’s comments show that Kyrgios’ personality is not just accepted but also appreciated in the tennis community. While his on-court behavior has been criticized in the past, many are now recognizing the value of his personality and the excitement it brings to the sport.
