New Zealand secured an impressive eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. New Zealand has maintained a flawless record, winning all three of their matches in the tournament. In contrast, Bangladesh has suffered their second consecutive defeat, following their initial win against Afghanistan.

During the first innings, Bangladesh managed to score 245/9, with Mushfiqur Rahim contributing a well-fought half-century, making 66 runs from 75 balls. Kiwi fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was instrumental, taking three wickets for 31 runs in his ten overs, which included the crucial dismissal of Bangladesh’s captain, Shakib Al Hasan, who had scored 40 runs off 51 balls and was steering Bangladesh towards a substantial total alongside Rahim.

In their pursuit of 246 runs for victory, Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell took center stage. They formed an impressive 108-run partnership before Williamson had to leave the field due to injury. He had contributed 78 runs from 107 balls. Mitchell remained unbeaten with a remarkable 89 runs from 67 balls to secure the victory for New Zealand.

New Zealand have won three in three matches to sit at the top of the table.

Gautam Gambhir’s Illustrious Cricket Journey on His 42nd Birthday

Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian left-handed cricketer who now serves as a Member of Parliament for the BJP in East Delhi, celebrated his 42nd birthday on October 14.

Born into a prominent business family in Delhi on October 14, 1981, Gambhir is a recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2008 and the Padma Shri in 2019.

He attended the University of Delhi and was a key part of the Indian Cricket Team from 2003 to 2016. Gambhir made his Test debut on November 3, 2004, against Australia and played his last Test on November 9, 2016, versus England.

Before his Test debut, Gambhir played his first One Day International (ODI) on April 11, 2003, against Scotland and participated in his final ODI match on January 27, 2013, facing England.

Over his 13-year cricket career, Gambhir featured in 58 Test matches, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20Is, amassing 4154, 5238, and 932 runs, respectively. His best performances were 206 in Test cricket, an unbeaten 150 in ODIs, and a score of 75 in T20Is. He achieved 9 centuries in Tests and 11 in ODIs.

In the crucial final match of the 2007 T20 World Cup against Pakistan, Gambhir played a significant role, scoring 75 runs, featuring 8 fours and 2 sixes.

During the 2011 World Cup, he played a pivotal role in India’s victory against Sri Lanka in the finals, contributing an important 97 runs from 122 balls under immense pressure.

Notably, in 2009, he was the top-ranked batsman in the ICC Test rankings and received the ICC Test Player of the Year award in the same year.

Gambhir had a successful stint as the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, leading the team to victory in 2012 and 2014. Presently, he serves as the mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.

On December 3, 2018, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, marking the end of his cricketing career just ahead of his final match for the Delhi cricket team against the Andhra cricket team in the Ranji Trophy on December 6, 2018.
