There’s been already a private WBIT running around since 1998 with the 64-team postseason tournament. It is uncertain whether this private WBIT will continue or not. However, programs occasionally turned down an invitation because they’d have to pay their own way.
The NCAA will create the selection committee in 2024 for the WBIT in the summer.
