New Features in PS5: Discord Integration and More
Sony released the latest system software update for all PS5 consoles, version 23.01-07.00.00, on Wednesday, March 8. The update includes several new features and changes, with four that will interest most players.
Discord Integration
The biggest new feature is the integration of Discord. This feature is limited to voice chat for now, but it’s a great way to chat with your Discord friends through your PS5. You can now transfer a voice chat to your PS5 in the Discord app.
1440p Output and VRR
Sony has updated the 1440p output, originally rolled out in September, with VRR (variable refresh rate) support in 1440p. There are additional modes and HDMI devices supported too. Check if your HDMI device supports 1440p resolution from Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > Test 1440p Output.
Voice Command Upgrade and Data Transfer
Voice Command is getting an upgrade with new features. If you say “Hey PlayStation, capture that,” your PS5 will save a video clip of your recent gameplay. You can also specify how long of a clip you want to save with commands like “Hey PlayStation, start recording” or “Hey PlayStation, stop recording.”
Lastly, there’s a new option to transfer all data from one PS5 to another. This new feature is useful if you need to move consoles.
Other Updates
The update also includes several smaller changes, such as upgrades to the screen reader, a timer for tracking elapsed game time, and a “Friends Who Play” tile, showing which of your friends own the game and what they’re up to. You can now filter through PS VR- and PS VR2-compatible games and change the default sort order for game lists.
How to Update Your PS5
To update your PS5 manually, go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. You’ll see “Update Available” if you haven’t updated yet. Just choose “Update System Software” to update.
The latest system software update for PS5 offers several new features and changes that will enhance your gaming experience. The Discord integration and voice command upgrades are particularly noteworthy. Updating your PS5 is easy and will ensure you have access to all of these new features.
