Negreira speaks out on Barcelona
Negreira released statement regarding FC Barcelona payments
?In the first official statement when the story of ‘Negreira’ initially broke out, FC Barcelona had made it clear that the payments made to the referee corporation was for the club to receive ‘technical reports’ on the referee’s behavior and how to maintain a code of conduct around certain officials.
The Blaugrana have been accused of receiving bias and referee decisions in their favor between 2016 and 2018. However, since the news broke out, the club had even provided evidence of the payment towards former vice-president of the referee committee. The payments have been purely for sporting reasons rather than anything shady on the club’s behalf.
What did Jose Negreira have to say?
In conversation with the Spanish Tax Agency inspectors, Jose Negreira made things clear by saying, “Barcelona considered that their team were harmed [by referees] and other teams were favoured. This is a personal hypothesis; nobody has told it to me directly.”
“My task was to give my personal opinion on matches in terms of refereeing and the players involved. I was giving technical advice. What Barcelona wanted was to make sure that no decisions were made against the club, that everything was neutral,” he stated.
The 77-year-old added, “I saw them [Bartomeu and Rosell] at most six times a year. They wanted to make sure that the arbitration committee does not stand against Barca, that everything remains neutral.”
