NCAA Tournament Shocker: Princeton Stuns No. Arizona in First Round
In a big surprise, No. 15 Princeton won against No. 2 Arizona in the first round of the 2023 men’s NCAA Tournament. Most people thought Arizona would win easily, especially after they won the Pac-12 Tournament last week. But Princeton had other plans, and they won 59-55. This upset means that there are now very few perfect brackets left.
The game was close, with Arizona leading 55-50 with just five minutes left in the game. But they missed all seven of their last shots, and Princeton took advantage to win. Keeshawn Kellman, Ryan Langborg, Caden Pierce, and Tosan Evbuomwan all made important plays to help Princeton win.
This is the first time Princeton has won a game in the NCAA Tournament since 2011. It’s also the third year in a row that a No. 15 seed has won against a No. 2 seed. Last year, Saint Peter’s beat Kentucky and made it to the Elite Eight, while the year before, Oral Roberts beat Ohio State and made it to the Sweet 16.
It’s too early to tell if Princeton will make it far in the tournament like those teams did, but they’ve certainly made a name for themselves. Their next game is against No. 7 Missouri, and people are excited to see if they can keep their winning streak going.
