NCAA Tournament Coach Paul Mills Departs Oral Roberts for Wichita State
Coach Paul Mills is making waves in the world of college basketball once again. After leading Oral Roberts to its second NCAA Tournament appearance in just three years, the head coach is reportedly leaving Tulsa, Oklahoma for another opportunity.
According to beat writer Kelly Hines, Mills recently met with the Golden Eagles team and broke the news to them that he’s moving on to become the new head coach at Wichita State. Mills has been with Oral Roberts since 2017, making it his first head coaching job.
Over his six seasons with the program, Mills has built an impressive record of 106-84, including two Summit League tournament championships and a regular-season championship, in addition to two NCAA Tournament appearances. He took over for Scott Sutton, who coached the Golden Eagles for 18 seasons from 1999-2016 and helped put the school on the college basketball map.
Now, Mills is looking forward to his next challenge as the new head coach at Wichita State. He’ll be replacing Isaac Brown, who struggled to replicate the success of Gregg Marshall.
This is certainly a significant change for both Mills and the Golden Eagles, but it’s also an exciting new chapter for both parties. It will be interesting to see how Mills adapts to his new role at Wichita State, and who will take over as head coach at Oral Roberts.
