MultiVersus Suffers 99% Drop in Daily Steam Player Count Following Release

MultiVersus, the Warner Bros. platform fighter, has experienced a massive decrease in player count, dropping below 1,000 players for the first time since its launch. The peak daily player count on SteamDB showed only 986 players, which is a 99% decrease from its highest peak of 153,433 players. This is a drastic drop, and it’s not surprising given the game’s lack of content, communication, and focus on timed events with expensive skins.

The state of the game:

MultiVersus started as the next big thing in the gaming community, with 20 million players just a month after its launch. It had a clear roadmap of characters and additions, keeping the community engaged and speculating about what’s next. However, leaks indicated that Season 2 would be promising but failed to live up to the hype.

Season 2 only featured a few timed events, a single new character, and a new stage based on Game of Thrones, which was a significant drop compared to Season 1’s six new characters. The lack of communication and plans from Player First Games, combined with the season’s extension by a month with no new content to come, has frustrated players.

The hope for Season 3:

Despite the game’s dismal situation, some MultiVersus fans remain optimistic about the future. Leaks suggest that the game will add a few characters, including Joker, Pickle Rick, the Wicked Witch, and Beetlejuice. While the player counts on Steam have dropped, it’s worth mentioning that this count only shows the player count for Steam, not PlayStation and Xbox. It’s possible that the player bases mentioned there are more healthy, although it’s unlikely.

It’s saddening to see MultiVersus losing 99% of its player base in seven months since its launch. The lack of content and communication has led to this unfortunate outcome. Nonetheless, Season 3 offers a chance for the game to redeem itself and regain its player base. We hope that the developers listen to the community and add content that will keep the players excited and engaged.
