MS Dhoni’s Humble Encounter Before His Iconic 148 Against Pakistan

There’s an old idea called the Butterfly Effect. It says that little things that happen in life can sometimes lead to much bigger things later on. This happened to the former Indian captain MS Dhoni. He did something really great – he scored his first ODI century, getting 148 runs against Pakistan in a match in Visakhapatnam. This happened because his captain at that time, Sourav Ganguly, put him in a better batting position.

Even now, Dhoni remembers that inning because it gave him more chances to play for his country – 10 more matches. Before this, he had only played four matches. Dhoni wasn’t very famous before the IPL and social media came along.

MS Dhoni Wasn’t Recognized By Bat Owner’s Wife Months Before Scoring 148 Vs Pakistan,

MS Dhoni wasn’t very well-known in India back then. Even Manju Kohli, who is the wife of Somi Kohli, the person who owns a famous cricket equipment brand called BAS (Beat All Sports), didn’t recognize Dhoni before he started playing for India in December 2004.

But after Dhoni scored that important century a few months later, he called Somi Kohli that very night to see if Somi’s wife knew about him now or not!

“In 2004, I first met him [MS Dhoni] in Chandigarh, and months later, he came to Jalandhar to visit our factory. Dhoni stayed at my home, and when I told my wife Manju Kohli, she asked, ‘Who is he?’ The next day, when I met Dhoni, he told me that he could not sleep for hours thinking about my wife’s words.

“Some months later, when he scored the century against Pakistan, Dhoni called us at 11 in the night and asked me if he could talk to my wife. He told her, ‘Auntie, main Dhoni [Auntie, Dhoni speaking]’. My wife told him, ‘Beta [Son], now the whole world knows who Dhoni is’. That was the bond we shared,” revealed Somi during an interaction with The Indian Express after Dhoni had announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020.

There’s a cool story about how Dhoni got noticed. There’s a person named Paramjeet Singh who owns a sports store in the middle of Ranchi. Dhoni used to play cricket there when he was young. Dhoni called Paramjeet “Chotu bhaiya” and Paramjeet saw Dhoni’s talent. Paramjeet kept asking Kohli to give Dhoni cricket gear for about six months until they finally gave it to him in February 1998. That’s why both Paramjeet and Kohli are important in Dhoni’s story. This story was even shown in Dhoni’s movie “M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story” in 2016.

MS Dhoni’s Popularity Mounted Up Post Visakhapatnam Century

During Dhoni’s fifth ODI match, he hit the ball really well. He made 15 fours and four sixes, which is a way to score points in cricket. He played at a speed of 120.32, which means he was very good at hitting the ball. People who loved cricket enjoyed watching him play. He was on the field for about two and a half hours, hitting the ball all over the place. This wasn’t just noticed by Manju Kohli, but by everyone who likes cricket.

This scene is also shown in his movie. His ex-girlfriend Priyanka Jha (played by Disha Patani) talks to him on the phone and says, “Today, everyone in India knows your name.” It’s a famous scene.

After the series of matches was over, a lot of Dhoni’s fans went to the airport to get his autograph or just to see him. He was like a young superstar from a small town, and people were excited to see him. He even had to walk around in the streets of Ranchi with his helmet on, so people wouldn’t crowd around him too much!
