Fans react to Luis de la Fuente naming Morata as the new Spain captain
With the European qualifiers coming up, Spain has announced their squad and named Alvaro Morata as captain. The striker is experienced, but some fans questioned is mentality and character.
This comes after Sergio Busquets stepping down not only from the captaincy but also hanging up his boots. Jordi Alba would have been next in line for the role, however, the full back wasn’t called up to the national squad this time around.
How did the fans react to the announcement?
Most fans did not agree with Luis De La Fuente’s announcement.
Mamba: “The hell. When I think of captains I think of the strongest guy mentally, someone who doesn’t demand respect. Someone who is both lovee and feared. Morata is not that guy.”
King_Johnson: “Wtf has happened in Spain for Alvaro Morata to end up being captain of the national team? I like the guy and he’s a lot of things, but captain should not be one of them, surely?”

On the other hand, some fans were pleased with giving the captaincy to a player who was neither from Barcelona nor Real Madrid. Thus, an Atletico Madrid player as the captain is a smart choice.
