All the 3 brothers of Shami wanted to become fast bowlers and used to practice daily for it. Shami always gives major credit for his successful career to his father because he always supported him. His father Tauseef Aliwas a farmer who had been a fast bowler in his youth. Shami’s father and his three brothers all played cricket, with one brother, Mohammed Kaif, making his List A debut for Bengal in 2021.

Mohammed Shami is married to Hasin Jahan. The couple got married in 2014 and has been blessed with a daughter Aairah Shami in July 2015. Apart from cricket Shami’s personal life is full of ups and downs. He has faced several allegations against himself and his family.

In March 2018, an FIR was lodged against Shami, his elder brother, and other members of the family by Hasin Jahan and her family members for domestic violence and adultery. Shami was charged with offenses relating to domestic violence, attempted murder, poisoning, and criminal intimidation after which he was in a depression that he tried to end his life thrice but his family’s support played a major role in his life. Shami was withheld of his matches by BCCI. he was even investigated under the match-fixing charges, but later he was proved innocent.

Later in October 2021, Shami became a victim of online abuse after India lose the ICC 2021 World Cup match to Pakistan. Several cricketers came forward in defense of Shami, especially Virat Kohli expressing his disappointment over Islamophobic comments.

In January 2016, Shami’s brother Mohammad Haseeb got arrested under the allegations of assaulting a Police officer and asking them for releasing a few men arrested on the charges of cow slaughtering. But later he was released on bail.
