Simone Biles made history today by winning her 34th medal in gymnastics, making her the most decorated gymnast of all time. Shiffrin herself is no stranger to success, having won nine gold medals in the Alpine World Championships and the Winter Olympics.
In total, she has 17 medals from these two competitions. Additionally, Shiffrin has stood on the podium an impressive 138 times during her World Cup career, with 18 podium finishes just this year.
Simone Biles has now overtaken the legendary Vitaly Scherbo in the record books. Vitaly Scherbo was a sensation in the 1990s, earning six gold medals at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and four bronze medals at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He also won 12 more World Championships between 1991 and 1996 but was forced to retire in 1997 due to a hand injury.
Simone Biles’ record-breaking journey is not over yet. She still has the rest of this year and the 2024 Olympics in Paris to set new records and inspire future gymnasts.
