Meyers Leonard will sign a 10-day contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, experienced big man Meyers Leonard will join the Milwaukee Bucks on a 10-day deal and make his NBA comeback. Due to an antisemitic incident and several injuries, Leonard has missed more than two full seasons of play.
When Leonard spoke an antisemitic insult in March 2021, he was live streaming himself while playing video games. Leonard, a Miami Heat player at the time, was penalized $50,000 and barred from participating in any team activities for a week as a result of the incident. The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired him shortly after in exchange for Trevor Ariza and a 2027 second-round selection. Leonard has not participated in league action since being released by the Thunder.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, who may miss time due to an injured right wrist, learns of the deal as it is happening. Against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, Antetokounmpo suffered the injury. He onto the court for the first 20 seconds of Sunday’s All-Star game before taking an intentional foul to end his participation. According to testing on Monday, he escaped significant harm, but he could miss work until the pain and swelling go down.
The Bucks worked out with Leonard in January, according to the story from Monday, and have been keeping an eye on him for more than a year. Also, Leonard allegedly exercised with the Lakers. His hiring by Milwaukee will replace a vacant position on the team as the Bucks attempt to compete for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
At the time of his arrival in Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokounmpo was dealing with a wrist ailment. The two-time MVP only had a brief appearance in the All-Star Game on Sunday, and ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported that he intended to have more wrist testing done on Monday.
Until additional details regarding Antetokounmpo’s injuries are revealed, the Bucks may be trying to strengthen their frontcourt depth by signing Leonard.
