FIFA shortlists Messi, Benzema, and Mbappe for The Best Player Award

It is that time of the year again when UEFA will present The Best award to the most clinical player of the year. The trio of Messi, Benzema, and Mbappe was shortlisted from an initial list of 14 players. The votes are equally collected from a group of national team coaches, captains, journalists, and fans.

THE BIGGER PICTURE:

The 2022 World Cup winner will go down as the favorite to win the award. The Argentinian was outstanding for club and country last year having earned another star to add to Argentina’s crest.

Meanwhile, Mbappe scored a hat-trick in the World Cup yet ended up being on the losing end of things. He comes off an impressive year with France and PSG.

His French compatriot, Karim Benzema barely missed out on the World Cup squad due to an injury. Despite that, the Real Madrid striker went on to win the 2022 Ballon d’Or in the year in which he won both La Liga and the Champions League.

WHAT NEXT?

The winner will be announced during the official awards ceremony held on the 27th of Feb.
