Matt Cardona Files A Trademark For WWE Ring Name- “Zack Ryder”
Matt Cardona appears to be seeking to own his past to better control his future. While rumors of a possible WWE return continue to circulate, Cardona appears to have made a power move by trademarking his former WWE name ahead of time.
Now that the name “Zack Ryder” is available, Matt Cardona has applied to trademark it.
The trademark, which was registered on January 14th, basically covers all entertainment services provided by professional wrestlers.
Following is the trademark description:
Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, live appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainer; Entertainment services, namely, personal appearances by a professional wrestler and sports entertainment personality; Entertainment services, namely, televised appearances by a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality; Organization, arranging and conducting of sumo wrestling competitions; Providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; Providing online interviews featuring a professional wrestling and sports entertainment personality in the field of professional wrestling, sports entertainment, and toys and collectibles for entertainment purposes.
This comes in the wake of Anthem registering a trademark for the Santino Marella name to be used in IMPACT Wrestling.
While he did not explain his intentions, Cardona responded to this filing on social media. Cardona joked that he wanted a mirror and an office chair, a subtle nod to Vince McMahon’s “lethal dose of poison” promo that introduced the nWo to WWE.
At one point, Matt Cardona even proposed re-entering WWE under his real name to wrestle Zack Ryder, as if Ryder were a different wrestler from Cardona.
