Martina Navratilova slams BBC for forbidding journalists from attending anti-semitism march
Martina Navratilova recently expressed her displeasure at the BBC for excluding its journalists from participating in a London anti-Semitism march.
The March Against Antisemitism, which Navratilova endorsed, is organized by the Campaign Against Antisemitism, a non-profit organization dedicated to exposing and combating anti-Jewish prejudice. The march is set to begin at the Royal Courts of Justice on Sunday, November 26.
The BBC has apparently barred its journalists from marching, citing impartiality restrictions (h/t Daily Mail). The Jewish journalists, according to insiders, wrote to their employers to clarify the corporation’s position on the topic. They were allegedly advised that the march would be viewed as a problematic affair rather than a commemorative or happy one.
According to the sources, the BBC had a double standard because several of its correspondents had previously attended pro-Palestinian protests without experiencing any penalties.
On Friday, November 24, the 18-time Grand Slam champion spoke out about the BBC’s suspension.
“Seriously? Marching against atrocities and hatred is somehow wrong?” Navratilova wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Martina Navratilova calls a Fox journalist’s views on Palestine “right out of the Hitler playbook” in a now-deleted tweet.
Martina Navratilova recently chastised Fox journalist Jesse Watters for his opinions on Palestine in the light of Israel’s continuing confrontation with Hamas.
Navratilova has spoken out against the recent cruelty and misery experienced by the people of Palestine and Israel. On October 7, Hamas, a Palestinian terrorist group, launched an unexpected attack on Israel, prompting a strong retaliation from the latter.
According to numerous media accounts, the fighting has resulted in over 10,000 deaths, as well as extensive devastation and anarchy. This flare-up is the latest chapter in Israel and Palestine’s long-running struggle for ownership and control of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Jesse Watters, a Fox News journalist, recently stated his thoughts on the subject, saying (via MediaMatters.org):
“At this point, I don’t believe we can have a Palestinian state.” I’m done with the Palestinians. I’m done with the Palestinians. If I were in Israel, I would not be discussing a Palestinian state right now. I don’t believe Joe Biden should be discussing a Palestinian state right now.
“I also don’t like how people try to distinguish between Palestinians and Hamas.” To me, I see individuals armed with weapons – that’s Hamas. The Palestinians are the ones who do not have firearms. They have the same viewpoint.”
Martina Navratilova slammed Watters and likened his words to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis’ inhumane rhetoric.
“Step one, right out of Hitler’s playbook, dehumanize this particular group of people.” Do it enough times, and you’ll be able to do anything with/to that group,” Navratilova stated in a now-deleted tweet on X (h/t Moyens.net).
