Marcus Spears’ Analysis: Josh Allen’s Recent Struggles Going to Cost him Connection with Stefon Diggs
Buffalo Bills’ quarterback, Josh Allen, had a tough Week 1 against the New York Jets, making four costly turnovers that led to a 22-16 overtime loss. On a recent episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” analyst Marcus Spears shared his frank thoughts on Allen’s performance.
Spears expressed concerns that Allen’s difficulties could strain his connection with Bills’ wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. The problem, as Spears sees it, is that Allen hasn’t been playing smart football.
In Spears’ words, “Josh Allen is playing football to where he’s going to lose his top target in Stefon Diggs. Stefon Diggs is tired of having to get this dude’s confidence back in games, telling him to be smarter with the football.”

Spears’ comments, although direct, do have some merit. Allen himself took responsibility for the Bills’ loss to the Jets, admitting, “Trying to force the ball. Same s—, same plays, different day.”
Bills’ head coach, Sean McDermott, also acknowledged that Allen needs to be more cautious with the football. McDermott said, “Josh is hard on himself. Unfortunately you have to be reminded of taking care of the football sometimes with a loss. We made it awfully hard on ourselves tonight.”
Looking ahead, the Bills are eager to bounce back in their upcoming game against the Raiders this Sunday, with the hope of leaving Allen’s recent struggles behind.
