Wout Weghorst is on thin ice due to a lack of goal scoring threat

Manchester United fans are running out of patience for Wout Weghorst. The Dutch striker remains a regular starter for the Red Devils but has failed to impress in front of goal.

The striker was brought on loan from Burnley cutting his initial loan deal at Besiktas. So far he has scored 2 goals across all competitions and will stay at Old Trafford until the end of the season.

The Dutchman was initially being used in a deeper midfield role rather than a striker upfront, thus explaining his lack of goals. However, the fans, however, have lost their trust in the 30-year-old after a poor display against Real Betis.

How did the fans react?

GledTheRed (via RedCafe): “Like having Maguire up front.”

criticalanalysis: “I was defending him for the first 4–5 games in the sense of ‘he did some objectively good things’ but there’s no need to beat the bush about his quality for us the past 10 (?) games as he has been really poor.

Woziak: “I hate to say this because he works his socks off but he’s an old-fashioned cart horse, I would compare him to Peter Crouch but Crouchy’s finishing was miles better, the guy just can’t finish.”

PoTMS: “Anyone who’s actually serious about signing him on a permanent transfer is not right in the head.”

kundalini: “At this stage, it feels like Weghorst gets selected because his height is useful for defending corners and wide free-kicks, and he presses more than our other forwards. He doesn’t have the pace or the technical ability to be a Man United forward.”

royalewithcheese2006: “Thought he could be a decent squad option but starting to realize that opinion was based more on emotion than logic. Offers absolutely nothing. Gets bullied off the ball, doesn’t even contest headers, scuffs pretty much every shot he takes and his hold-up play is fairly inconsistent.”
