Mahomes Roars: Kansas City Chiefs Defeats Cincinnati Bengals!
Patrick Mahomes paints yet another masterpiece. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 to advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday, where they will face the Philadelphia Eagles. This victory came as a result of a last-second field goal.
The past weeks were spent closely monitoring Mahomes’ ankle, as he suffered from a high ankle sprain in a Divisional Round win over Jacksonville. Prior to Thursday’s practice, which would be more challenging than the walk-through session the day before, Mahomes spoke to reporters from the Los Angeles Times.
He spoke, “Obviously, I feel like I can still do a lot of things,”, favored to be named the NFL’s most valuable player. “We’ll see as we get closer and closer, and we’ll see during the game. You can’t fully do exactly what you’re going to be in those moments during the game, but all I can do is prepare myself the best way possible, and then when we get in the game you hope adrenaline takes over and you can make those throws when you need to.” Mahomes was a full participant in practice. However, while searching for signs of weaknesses, we forgot to recall Mahomes’ rare abilities, including his biggest strength of being able to play through the pain.
The Chiefs’ offense floundered in the second half, but Mahomes kept them afloat by completing 29 of his 43 throws for 326 yards and two touchdowns. Prior to the final offensive play for the Chiefs, when a slightly hobbled Mahomes scrambled on third-and-4, turning the corner to pick up the first down before he was shoved late, drawing an unnecessary roughness penalty that gave the Chiefs the yardage necessary to attempt the game-winning field goal, his third-down touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling stood as his best play of the half. On Sunday, Mahomes made the crucial play, contributing 323 of Kansas City’s 357 net yards. He is a rare talent who once again proved that he is among the best people in the sport!
Moving forward, “I’ve watched them all year long, great quarterback, great entire team,” Mahomes said of the Eagles. “It’s going to be a great challenge for us, but I’m going to celebrate this one first. I don’t think we have any cigars, but we’ll be ready to go in the Super Bowl.”
“The work’s not done,” head coach Andy Reid said to a euphoric Kansas City crowd. “We’ve got a few practices here and then we’ve got to take care of business.”
