LSU Pitcher Ty Floyd Tied NCAA Strikeout Record in College World Series

In an epic showdown between LSU and Florida in Game 1 of the College World Series, something amazing happened. LSU’s pitcher, Ty Floyd, became a star with an incredible performance.

By the eighth inning, Floyd had already struck out an impressive 16 batters. Then, after his teammate Tommy “Tanks” White hit a home run to tie the game, Floyd went back to work. With runners on base, he struck out the last batter, making it a total of 17 strikeouts in the game.

This achievement tied a long-standing record for the most strikeouts in a College World Series game. The record had been held by Ed Bane since 1972.

Unfortunately, Floyd didn’t get a chance to break the record. He was taken out of the game in the ninth inning after throwing 122 pitches. Riley Cooper replaced him on the mound.

What makes Floyd’s performance even more impressive is that he wasn’t even LSU’s top pitcher this season. Despite that, he had a perfect 7-0 record as a starter with a 4.45 ERA.

The game between Florida and LSU is tied as they head into the ninth inning, and you can catch the action on ESPN.
