LSU Head Coach Kim Mulkey Blasts Level of Play During Elite Eight Victory
LSU head coach Kim Mulkey, known for her blunt personality, criticized the level of play during the Elite Eight game between the Miami Hurricanes and LSU Tigers basketball team. Despite the Tigers’ 54-42 victory, Mulkey voiced her disappointment with the quality of basketball showcased by both teams during the in-game interview with ESPN’s Brooke Weisbrod.
Mulkey emphasized the importance of fundamentals such as making free throws and easy layups but noted that neither team displayed these skills during the game. Miami’s shooting performance was particularly subpar, as they shot only 31.6 percent from the field and went 0-of-15 from beyond the arc. LSU was not much better, shooting 30.2 percent from the field and 8.3 percent from three-point range.
Despite the lackluster performance, LSU held a six-point lead at halftime and managed to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring Miami 16-12. The Tigers continued to apply pressure in the fourth quarter, securing their first-ever appearance in the Final Four.
Mulkey’s candid criticism during the Miami Hurricanes vs LSU Tigers game was a reflection of her dedication to the LSU Tigers basketball team. Her insight into the game’s shortcomings may have rubbed some people the wrong way, but it was hard to argue with the facts. Now, the LSU Tigers are one step closer to the NCAA championship thanks to their Elite Eight win.
