LSU Catcher Alex Milazzo Breaks Leg in Home Plate Collision During Big Game

In an important game between LSU and Florida for the College World Series championship on Monday, LSU had a significant lead but faced a heartbreaking moment when one of their players got injured.

During the fourth inning, LSU’s catcher, Alex Milazzo, was running from first base to home plate after a teammate hit the ball. As he tried to avoid colliding with the Florida catcher, he landed awkwardly on home plate and ended up breaking his leg.

Alex’s dad, Jimmy, shared with WAFB’s Jacques Doucet that his son’s shin was fractured but thankfully didn’t need surgery.

Even though Alex couldn’t continue playing, the fans at Omaha’s Charles Schwab Field showed their support by giving him a standing ovation as he was carried off the field. The run he scored extended LSU’s lead to 10-2, and the team added another run shortly after.

Alex had been performing well in the game, reaching base in all three of his turns at bat. This boosted his batting average to .289 and his on-base percentage to .369. Despite the injury, he stayed in the LSU dugout, watching his teammates play with his injured leg resting in a walking boot.

Although it was a disappointing end for Alex, LSU is on the brink of winning its seventh national title in program history.
