Little League World Series: Mexico Hitter’s Funny Batting Stance Going Viral
In a recent match at the Little League World Series, an amusing incident took place that caught the eye of spectators. During the game between Mexico and Venezuela, a player from the Mexico team attempted a rather unconventional batting stance, sparking curiosity and laughter among those watching.
The player came up to bat with the bases loaded, meaning there were runners on all three bases. The count stood at 1 ball and 0 strikes.
What set this moment apart was the player’s unusual approach. Instead of the typical batting stance, the Mexico batter crouched down extremely low, almost as if he was sitting on the ground. The intent behind this stance seemed to be an effort to make the strike zone appear smaller to the umpire. The strike zone is an imaginary area that helps the umpire decide if a pitch is within acceptable limits.
Despite the player’s creative attempt, the pitch went over his head, and the umpire rightfully declared it a strike. The incident was captured by Mike Monaco, the play-by-play announcer for ESPN.

Todd Frazier, a former major league player who also participated in the Little League World Series in the past, provided commentary during the game. Frazier found amusement in the player’s strategy and remarked, “I hope they tell him it’s not going to change the strike zone. I love every second of it.” He also noted that he himself might have given a similar tactic a try during his playing days.

The player didn’t stop with just one unconventional move. After the pitch, he took things a step further by placing his left foot on a home plate upon returning to the batter’s box. This action seemed to test the limits of what’s permissible within the rules of the game and drew the attention of the umpire.
While these tactics may not have altered the course of the game significantly, Mexico still managed to score three runs in that inning, leading to a 3-1 victory over Venezuela. The standout performance on the mound was delivered by Gael Leyva, who played a pivotal role in Mexico’s triumph.
Following this eventful match, Mexico now awaits the outcome of the game between Japan and Panama to determine their opponent in the next round. The winner of that match will face Mexico in an upcoming Wednesday showdown. It remains to be seen what other surprises and strategies the young players have in store as the tournament unfolds.
