Limited Run Games is making one final game release for the 3DS
Following the recent closure of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops, Limited Run Games has teased its “last” physical release for the Nintendo 3DS. The publisher and distributor posted a tweet featuring a photograph of a New Nintendo 3DS XL, a physical copy of the Go! Go! Kokopolo Anniversary Collection, and a mystery 3DS game at the center. While the cover of the game is completely concealed, many Nintendo 3DS users are excitedly putting forth suggestions as to which title Limited Run Games has plans to release.
Mixed Reactions
Limited Run Games‘ tweet has garnered mixed reactions from gamers. While some are eagerly anticipating the new release, others have questioned how the company will be able to put forth this release given that Nintendo allegedly ended production of Nintendo 3DS cartridges last year. A vocal majority have also accused the company of hypocrisy, stating that releasing limited runs of physical games does not help game preservation any more than the eShops closing down did.
Region Availability Concerns
Region availability is also a concern for many Nintendo 3DS users, as the console is region-locked. All Nintendo 3DS games previously released by Limited Run Games have been NTSC-only, and users located in European and Asia-Pacific regions are hoping that the company will offer a PAL version of the upcoming release.
Limited Run Games’ dedication to physical game releases has been a draw for many gamers, who appreciate the ability to collect and display their favorite titles. While the closure of the eShops has been a disappointment for many, Limited Run Games’ commitment to physical releases offers hope that some titles will be preserved for future generations of gamers.
