Lexi Thompson to Make History in PGA Tour Debut at Shriners Children’s Open
Lexi Thompson, a well-known LPGA golfer, is gearing up to participate in the upcoming Shriners Children’s Open, a PGA Tour event happening in Las Vegas on October 12.
Thompson, who is 28 years old, made the big announcement on Wednesday. It’s important to note that she received a special invitation to play in this event, making her only the seventh woman ever to do so on the PGA Tour.
In an Instagram post, Thompson shared her excitement, saying, “The Shriners Children’s supports all children, regardless of gender, with disabilities and as we know disability does not discriminate. I’m hopeful my ability to play with the men next week at The Shriners Children Open sends a great message to the young women that you can chase your dreams regardless of how difficult they may seem.”
Lexi Thompson’s golf journey is quite remarkable. She made history in 2007 at just 12 years old by becoming the youngest golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open. She’s also had strong showings in other major tournaments, finishing second or tied for second three times and securing 8th place in the 2016 Women’s British Open.
Thompson’s most recent LPGA Tour win happened in 2019 when she triumphed at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.
