Laporta breaks down in tears while addressing the allegations against the club amid other troubles

On Monday, Barcelona President Joan Laporta organized an event inviting the press and club officials, including Club captains across all ages and distinctions.

Among the discussion, the president addressed the ongoing “smear campaign” against the club accusing them of corruption. Ever since Laporta took over the reins at Barcelona he has had to deal with the departure of Messi, the financials troubles and now the allegations of corruption which has made it difficult for the club to operate.

With the whole world seeming to be against the Blaugrana, Laporta got emotional as he vowed to do everything in his capability to protect Barca and its image.

However, the official clarified that his emotions must not be mistaken for his weakness.

What did Laporta have to say?

In the presence of Barca captain, Sergio Busquets and Alexia Putellas, Laporta said: “I can’t wait to face all the scoundrels who are staining our badge. Barca is a club with values. We use the word values, not to look good, but because values really are a fundamental part of our sporting excellence model. And that is why Barca is admired and recognized throughout the world. It also happens that some, motivated by envy, try to erode our reputation with campaigns carried out in bad faith.

“Barcelona sentiment cannot be bought or sold but it cannot be sullied either. And recently, and I take advantage of the fact that people who love the club are gathered together, there have been some ferocious attacks to stain our shield, which have nothing to do with reality. And you can be sure that in the board of directors that I have the honour of chairing we will defend it with all our strength.”

Laporta concluded his speech in tears, by saying: “Don’t think that I am getting emotional out of weakness, I am emotional because I really want to face all the scoundrels that are staining our shield. Let no one think that it is due to weakness.”

Barca currently sit on top of the league table with nine points clear of arch-rivals Madrid who they host at Camp Nou on Sunday.
