LA Lakers’ upsetting loss against the Celtics, Patrick Beverly’s reaction to the foul
The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a 125-121 loss to the Boston Celtics, which was devastating. It was almost a tie game when LeBron James was on his way toward the rim and was certainly fouled but did not get the call. LeBron got fouled by Jayson Tatum, but there was no foul call.
What happened on Saturday night between the Lakers and Celtics?
James was clearly fouled by Jayson Tatum, but the refs did not make the foul call. The Lakers were upset about this, so much so that Patrick Beverly brought one of the photographer’s camera and showed it to the referee. Beverly’s daring act was inescapable and drew fans’ attention on social media.
Jeff Van Gundy, ESPN’s commentator pointed this out and said,” This is exactly why replay was instituted. If we can’t review that, then to me, replay serves no purpose in our game.”
It is no surprise that Beverly came up with such an idea, and that’s what Jeff justified in his broadcast.
Even the Lakers’ coach Darvin Ham spoke up about the differences that the refs brought to their game.
Ham said, “As much as you try not to put it on the officiating, it’s becoming increasingly difficult. The best player on earth can’t get a call. It’s amazing.”
“[He] plays a strong, physical brand of basketball and just because he doesn’t flop or he doesn’t fall or he’s not screaming when he’s shooting the ball like I see a ton of other players doing, he gets penalized for it,” Ham said. “I saw the same thing with Giannis [Antetokounmpo]. I saw the same thing when I was a player in the Shaq [O’Neal] era. Those guys that play physical and really try to focus on finishing plays, sometimes it doesn’t go in their favor. But then you see other guys whimpering on every shot or every time they get bumped … and they are the ones getting the whistles.”
