Kyrie Irving is traded by the Nets to the Mavs for Spencer Dinwiddie
Several reports claim that the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks have reached an agreement to transfer Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks. In the exchange, the Nets are said to acquire top draft selections, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Dorian Finney-Smith.
Prior to the trade deadline on Thursday, the Nets want to use the picks they obtained in the deal as well as their first-round pick from the Philadelphia 76ers in 2027 in trade negotiations.
On Friday and Saturday, the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets talked about trading for Irving. But ultimately, according to insiders, the Mavericks’ deal provided the Nets a greater chance to surround Kevin Durant with guys right now and the possibility to pick up three lottery selections. Before talks with the Mavericks swiftly came together Sunday afternoon, the Nets were considering three-way agreements with the Lakers, according to sources.

James and Irving defeated the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals by rallying from a 3-1 deficit. They then joined up to capture the 2016 title. However, a strange split would occur soon after, and Cleveland would trade Irving to the Boston Celtics.
Dinwiddie played with the Nets for five seasons before having his greatest campaign in 2019–20, when he scored a career-high 20.6 points per game while starting 49 games, primarily because of Kyrie Irving’s injuries.
