Kevin Love plans to sign with the Miami Heat
According to his agent Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports, free agent forward Kevin Love intends to join the Miami Heat after clearing waivers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said on Sunday (February 19). Love anticipates being able to contribute significantly to the Heat’s frontcourt rotation as they advance in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Before finalizing his choice, Love, 34, allegedly discussed a potential trade with the Philadelphia 76ers as well, according to Wojnarowski. In a statement received by ESPN on Saturday (February 18), Cleveland Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman stated on behalf of the franchise that the veteran big man and the team had reached a contract buyout agreement.
When buyout negotiations were over, Love decided on Miami. Heat center Bam Adebayo said, “That would give us another veteran, another person who’s gone through the playoffs, another man who knows what it takes to win and get to where we want to go. As a member of USA Basketball, Love is a five-time NBA All-Star, and an Olympic and FIBA World Cup winner and his combination of height and 3-point shooting prowess would appear to fit him perfectly into the Heat’s scheme.
Zeller will make Miami his third NBA city. In 494 games with Charlotte and Portland, he averaged 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. The 2013 draft’s fourth selection was the 6-foot-11 center.
