Kawhi Leonard Gets A Blunt Message From Ty Lue For Lakers Next Season
Los Angeles Lakers had a really disappointment season last year and another disappointment was Kawhi Leonard. When Leonard first joined the Lakers, the hope was that he would bring glory to the team and will again manage to outperform other players winning another title. But that didn’t seem to happen.
Not just Leonard won any title, even the Lakers declined in his Era. Their performance was so worst that it is considered the league’s biggest disappointment ever. Leonard was unable to stay healthy for the most time in the season which resulted in him losing all the opportunities he could shine in.
To counter his health issues, the team has even planned to have him on rest for the regular season and then perform in the playoff. Things went as planned for a short while but then Leonard again got injured just after the playoffs commenced.
And now dealing with all the frustration, the head coach of Lakers, Ty Lue gave his thoughts on the concept of ‘Load Management’ as it pertains to his team’s biggest stars on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast.
As far as Lue is concerned, Leonard and Paul George need to get healthy and participate in the NBA’s regular season just like everyone else.
“But one thing I told Kawhi and PG this summer: we do gotta approach the regular season a different way… like let’s be serious about it… ‘Cause it matters,” he said.
“Who you get matched up with. Having home-court advantage. Not fighting the last 10 games of the season so we won’t be in the Play-In [Tournament]. So now you can get rest… So, they both understood that as well.”
Lue’s more stern approach as it pertains to the regular season stems from how challenging the last few years have been.
“It’s been tough,” Lue said. “It’s been frustrating… because we feel like we have the potential to win a championship. We have all the pieces. All the right pieces. And we have two great stars… two-way players but not a headache… you can go to those guys and ask them to do anything, and they’ll do it.”
Now they are heading in the next season and Leonard will have to do some magic to get his old reputation back. If somehow he can bring the Lakers to perform outstandingly in this upcoming season, then he might be able to stay with the Lakers for a while longer.
Let’s wait and see what happens.
