Katy Perry signals greenlight to Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce romance
Katy Perry seldom comments on the NFL, but when she does, it’s always in response to a huge cultural event.
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift appeared to reveal the worst-kept celebrity secret over the weekend via paparazzi images.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and the pop star were photographed holding hands as they headed out for or after supper in New York City on Saturday and Sunday. Vogue went so far as to term it a “hard launch” on Instagram, to which Perry responded with two words:
” I ship”
Katy Perry’s Super Bowl XLIX half-time concert revisited
Super Bowl XLIV represented a type of renewal for the NFL, as the New England Patriots won the Lombardi Trophy for the first time in ten years with a 28-24 victory over the reigning champion Seattle Seahawks.
The game is regarded as one of the most exciting of all time, with both teams containing a slew of stars and many spectacular plays, none larger than Malcolm Butler’s game-winning interception. Katy Perry’s half-time concert is one of the most energetic ever.
The singer began the event riding a big “lion” while playing “Roar,” and as the show went on, Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliott came, with the latter performing some of her songs.
Most people, however, will recall “Left Shark,” one of the backing dancers who appeared to depart from his customary technique as she sang “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls.”
Three years later, Perry told Elle that staging her performance required her to relinquish control:
“I am boss, daddy, in my show.” Mommy, I am the boss. They address me as Boss. Everything is filtered via my eyes. I call all the shots 100% all the time. With the NFL, I have to answer to numerous levels of bureaucracy.”
In an interview with Vogue eight years later (quotes via Insider), she recounted the experience:
“Playing in the Super Bowl was the most intense feeling I’ve ever had.” But I thought to myself, “Oh, this must be the feeling before giving birth or when you’re on the verge of death.”
The segment is the most watched halftime show in history, with a peak audience of nearly 121 million viewers tuning in to NBC.
